This class explores the History of the Bible and its status as authoritative Word of God. The class is open to anyone who wants to understand the Bible better, regardless of age, education, or spiritual maturity. The course begins by exploring the Reformation concept of “Scripture Alone” and why it is important for the life of a disciple. Then, the course focuses on the history of the Bible and its textual reliability, the Canon, and early English translations. Finally, we return to the Bible’s own testimony about its “God-Breathed” nature and examine the implications of that teaching for our lives today.
The class aims to be intellectually stimulating as well as spiritually edifying. At each class meeting we will sing hymns that connect with the daily topic, explore the day’s content using an interactive lecture and discussion format, and participate in some time of small group prayer. Participants will be given a NWSD journal and should bring their own print copy of the Bible in a standard translation.
