Recent Classes

Below is a thumbnail sketch of classes offered during the first six months of the program. This page gives you an idea of what kinds of things we are doing to help equip and strengthen disciples of Jesus.   We will be offering these courses again in 2022 so check back for more details. 

Discipleship begins at Home: Basics of Family Worship

Teacher:  Darren Williamson

Location: Southwest Church of Christ, small auditorium

Time/Dates:  Sunday evenings, 5:30-7:30pm – February 21, February 28, March 7

Class Description: This is a short (three night) discipleship course designed to inspire Christian families to implement Family Worship in their homes.  It provides Christian parents with inspiration, vision, and realistic help to make it part of the family’s routine.  The first-class session we will work through the definition of Family Worship and discuss its biblical and historic foundations.

The second class will explore the awesome blessings of Family Worship and examine its basic elements (Read, Recite, Sing, Pray).  The final class session is devoted to providing practical tips and suggestions for getting started with Family Worship and developing strategies for making it an established and healthy tradition of your home.

Teacher:  Darren Williamson

Location: Southwest Church of Christ, Small Auditorium

Dates:  April 11 - May 16, 2021 (no class April 18) (NOTE:  This is an update of the class time)

Course Fee: Recommended donation of $30.

Description: This class is the introductory class in the NWSD curriculum.  This six-week course offers a brief overview of the concept of discipleship that is explored in more depth in the rest of courses.  The class is open to anyone who wants to explore discipleship.  Come Follow Me begins with examining the Biblical definition of discipleship and then proceeds to explore its three main components:  Know Jesus, Love Jesus, Share Jesus.   

Shepherd the Flock: Following Jesus as an elder (D3)

Teachers: Don Boderman (Keizer Church of Christ)

Location: Various

Dates: Late Spring - Fall, 2021 (monthly)

Course Fee: Recommended donation of $30.

Description: This class is a special course for currently serving elders in local congregations of churches of Christ who desire to grow in their work as an elder through dialogue with other men serving in the same capacity.  For more on the class click below.

Becoming a Disciple-Making Disciple
(BIBL 3063 – Evangelism and Discipleship)

Teacher: Jason Swick, MA
Location: Prineville Church of Christ
Dates: March 8 - May 24, 2021
Time:  5:30-8:15pm
Course Fee: $60 (Audit - $45)
Credits: 3
Description:  This is a CITE course offered for college credit through Oklahoma Christian University. This course prepares students to share their Christian faith in their unique context. Students will learn tools and methods of Bible study that enable them to grow in their faith, create culturally relevant lessons, and answer common questions encountered in making disciples.

The Journey of Christian Manhood (D3)

Teacher: Darren Williamson & Tony Hughes
Location: Cascade Mountains
Dates: July 6 - 10, 2021
Course Fee: $30 + hiking expenses

Course Description: This course is for men, 18-25 yrs of age and will take place over a 5-day hike in the Cascade Mountains.  We will be reading R. Kent Hughes and W. Carey Hughes, Disciplines of a Godly Young Man (2012) and discussing the book's contents on the hike.
