Dominion

Phase III of the NWSD will include an 8-month program for young adult men (19-28) who desire to grow in their understanding of Biblical Manhood, show potential for bi-vocational ministry in the church, and who are considering a career or job in the trades.

Dominion, the NWSD trade skills initiative, builds on the core components of Project Antioch and Band of Brothers, and adds a needed component of vocational training in the trades that is especially important for today’s young Christian men.  This short season of hands-on basic skills training will make them better providers and servants in the church in addition to helping them decide what area of the trades they would like to pursue further for a career.  Along the way these young men will learn valuable lessons about leadership in the church and develop skills that every congregation needs in its leaders.

Why the name DOMINION ?

The name of this program echoes a key term in the Genesis account of creation:

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."  (Genesis 1:26–28, ESV)

Ruling—or exercising dominion—over the rest of creation is central to God's  purpose in creating mankind, and it is the essence of His first command to us. This Creation Mandate is foundational to a biblical worldview, informing our understanding of work, culture, and human identity.

Fulfilling this mandate involves the cultivation and use of all of our human capacities, including the skills students will develop in this program. It is our prayer that Dominion will equip students better to fulfill the very purpose for our existence.

Dominion Team Leader.

Peter Yukich (29) is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina who grew up in the church and enjoyed excellent spiritual mentoring from his father and mother, his father serving as an elder of the church.  After receiving a homeschool education through Highschool, Peter went on to study Biology at Hampden-Sydney College (Virginia), graduating with a BS In Biology in 2018.    While in college, Peter worked as a volunteer and professional firefighter/EMT and learned many skills related to helping people in times of trauma and need.  Following a two-year teaching stint at Great Hearts Cicero Prep Academy (Physics) in Prescott, Arizona, Peter went on to study Bible at Bear Valley Bible Institute (Denver, Colorado).     Peter has always been good with his hands and worked for several contractors both in Virginia and in Oregon prior to beginning his Electrician Apprenticeship.   In addition to being an Apprentice Electrician, Peter obtained his Oregon contractor’s license and runs his own handyman business.   Some of his favorite projects include door installation and repair, roofing, and electrical troubleshooting.

Most importantly, Peter is a dedicated disciple of Jesus, a faithful friend, and a devoted member of the church.    Since Peter’s move to Oregon in January 2023 he has taken multiple NWSD courses, led the Band of Brothers Disaster Relief, and participated and served in various ministries of the Southwest Church of Christ, including providing rides to shut-ins and facility maintenance.  Peter has also preached and led singing at many small churches, quickly gaining a solid reputation as a servant and encourager of the churches in the region.
